FCO 'Clarifies' it's advice on cruising

July 16, 2020

The FCO clarified its position “against cruise ship travel at this time” was applicable to international travel onboard “sea-going” cruise vessels.

The new definition clears the way for Brits to take river cruises and appears to also allow sailings around the UK.

The Cruise trade association's (CLIA) UK and Ireland director, Andy Harmer, said the FCO’s update provided a "very welcome boost" to the cruise sector.

“We are seeing a gradual, phased-in approach to resumption of cruise operations across Europe, initially domestic and regional,” he added.

Harmer stressed Clia was “continuing its constructive dialogue” with the Department for Transport and Public Health England over the advice to help “finalise the road map to [the] resumption of international cruise travel”.
