EasyJet reveals six new summer 2021 routes at Luton
June 10, 2020
EasyJet will expand its presence at Luton airport next summer with the addition of six new routes.
The airline has announced summer 2021 flights to Zakynthos, Larnaca, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Marrakech and Varna.
It will also increase weekly frequencies on a number of other routes next summer, starting July 2021, including Palma, Faro, Tenerife and Corfu.
No start date has been set for the new routes, which will compete directly with several existing and previously announced Wizz Air links.
It comes after Luton-based Wizz announced plans to overtake easyJet as the airport’s largest carrier last summer.
EasyJet will resume operations at Luton on 1 July this year, flying to 90% of its existing route network, albeit at reduced frequencies.
Initial destinations will include Milan, Lisbon Porto, Corfu, Rhodes, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Split, Tel Aviv and Reykjavik.
For summer 2021, easyJet will fly to Zakynthos seven times a week, and three times a week to Larnaca, Fuerteventura, Las Palmas, Marrakech and Varna.
Services set to gain frequency include Palma (up from 22 to 28); Faro (up from 18 to 20); Lisbon (up from 20 to 21); Porto, Thessaloniki, Tenerife and Heraklion (up from three to seven); Corfu (up from six to seven); Milan (up from 10 to 21); and Rhodes (up from two to seven).
Ali Gayward, easyJet UK country manager, said: “We are really looking forward to getting back into the air in a few weeks with 90% of our destinations on offer.
"The addition of six new summer routes and added flying on 11 existing ones from Luton next year will give our customers even more choice.
“I know many in the [Luton] region are keen for the resumption of flights this summer especially as many of our passengers may have had to rearrange their spring and early summer holiday plans this year.”
Wizz launched Las Palmas on 4 June and will add Faro on 16 June. Zakynthos, Heraklion, Corfu and Rhodes will follow in July, along with a four-times-weekly Marrakech service scheduled for late-October.
The carrier plans to add Palma (five-times-weekly) and Malaga (daily) this summer, flying from 1 July. A twice-weekly Luton-Fuerteventura service will start on 3 July, followed by Lanzarote in late-October.
