No boarding pass required

Breezing through security checkpoints and quickly boarding a Lufthansa or SWISS flight – by simply looking into a camera? This will now be possible, thanks to Star Alliance Biometrics. The biometric facial recognition system eliminates the need for a boarding pass and makes travel more relaxed and almost completely touch-free. Star Alliance Biometrics will be available exclusively at Frankfurt and Munich airports, starting 24 November 2020.

Miles & More members of Lufthansa and SWISS can already register for Star Alliance Biometrics via the Lufthansa app. Registration only takes a few minutes and must be done at least 24 hours before departure.

• How Star Alliance Biometrics works: At biometric touchpoints (currently at the security checkpoints and boarding areas at Frankfurt and Munich airports), a look into the camera will grant access;
• Biometric identification by Star Alliance Biometrics enables the identification of guests at the airport by matching the pictures, taken at the airport, to those stored in the biometric profile;
• Face recognition also works when a face mask is worn;
• In the Star Alliance network, registration is valid for all participating airports and airlines. Travelers, however, can decide which airports and airlines may use their data.
